12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 7th Oct 2001

Paul Keetch Member of Parliament for Hereford and Liberal Democrat Defence Spokesman said tonight that we pray for the safety of our Armed Forces as they go into action in Afghanistan.

Mr Keetch said "The Ministry of Defence has been in contact with me today detailing the action that is taking place. British forces are involved and at this time we pray for their success and their safety."

"This action is within International Law and is targeted and precise. We hope it can be delivered with the minimum of civilian casualties."
