LOCAL MP WELCOMES NEWEST COUNCILLOR

11.00.00am GMT Mon 26th Jan 2004

Lib Dem MP for Hereford Paul Keetch has welcomed Herefordshire's newest Councillor, Fiona Short, to her new role.

Ms Short, a Liberal Democrat, was elected on Thursday to the St Nicholas ward following the by-election caused by the death of Fiona's father, Revd. David Short MBE.

"I pass on my fullest congratulations to Fiona on her new role," Mr Keetch said. "She won through a tough campaign and I know that she will fight for all her constituents with great determination, following in the great tradition of her father. She is I believe the youngest councillor and I think she will bring a great deal of vibrancy to the current Council."
