KEETCH CONCERNED OVER LOCAL JOB LOSSES

2.57.16pm GMT Wed 4th Feb 2004

Paul Keetch, MP for Hereford, met last Friday in Ross with employees and union representatives from the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions plant based Ross on Wye.

Employees contacted the MP when they were advised of potential closure of the factory and the possible loss of around 150 jobs.

"When I was alerted to this situation I was alarmed since Trelleborg, originally Woodville Polymer of course, is one of the biggest employers in Ross and the closure of this factory would be totally detrimental to the town," Mr Keetch said.

"Having met with the employees I sympathise with them and hope that the Trelleborg officials will reconsider their plans and transfer their plant from Tewkesbury to Ross rather than vice versa," the MP continued, "since this appears to make more sense from what I am advised."

Paul Keetch is also concerned about the knock on effect this closure will have on smaller businesses and national contracts as well as the impact on the local economy.

Along with Trade Union representatives, Paul Keetch MP and the employees of Trelleborg will oppose the proposed closure of this site. Mr Keetch has requested a meeting with Roger Kent, the President of Global Operations for the company, and is also in contact with the D.T.I and Advantage West Midlands to seek support for the survival of this successful business in Ross on Wye.
