PARISH COUNCIL LOBBIES MP OVER PROPOSED GATE

10.21.00am GMT Mon 16th Feb 2004

Whitchurch Parish Council has lobbied local MP, Paul Keetch, for his support in opposing a proposed gate off the A40 at Whitchurch. The gate would block the slip road that goes from the A40 north into Whitchurch past the Memorial Hall.

"I cannot understand why this gate is needed," said Mr Keetch.

"The local Parish Council and local District Councillor are all against it, so why waste public money on such a scheme. The money could be better spent on speed reduction measures.

"I have offered my support to the Parish Council and will be taking a look for myself at the proposals this Wednesday."

The Parish Council have also asked Mr Keetch to investigate possible improvements to the sewage system in Whitchurch.
