KEETCH MEETS NFU OVER 'FALLEN STOCK' CRISIS

Hereford's Lib Dem MP Paul Keetch has met with local farmers and the NFU to discuss the problems of new regulations over fallen stock. Mr Keetch says that the Government needs to look again at its so called collection scheme and allow animal burial until such a scheme exists.

"The Government introduced new regulations in June that were supposed to come into effect in July but they are only dealing with one side", said Mr Keetch.

"They tell farmers that they cannot any longer bury dead stock as they have for years, but they have not brought in the collection scheme to deal with such animals.

"Farming has had a bad time recently without yet more regulation from Government. Farmers get enough of that from Brussels! Liberal Democrats have opposed these plans in Parliament and we will continue so to do."
