KEETCH MEETS MADLEY WASTE WATCHERS12.00.00pm GMT Mon 18th Oct 2004
Hereford's Lib Dem MP Paul Keetch met members of the Madley Waste Watchers group on Saturday for an update on the continuing campaign against a new waste recycling plant on the old Madley airfield. Mr Keetch, who has criticised the Local Authority for not considering alternative sites, says the meeting was useful. "This is the fourth or fifth time I have met the group and it is useful for both sides to get an update", said Mr Keetch. "I was able to tell them that I have asked the Council to explain why it has not seriously considered Moreton on Lugg as an alternative site. Unfortunately I have not yet had a full reply from the Council. "The group explained where they are in so far as a Judicial Review of the Council's activities is concerned. It really is a tribute to the group that so far over 1,800 people, mostly from the Golden Valley, have made donations to their campaign. There is still a long way to go and they still need more financial support but this has been a magnificent start. "Both Waste Watchers and I have never been against trialing this plant, but it has to be in the right location - we remain firmly of the opinion that it is not Madley."
