KEETCH DELIGHTED BY NEWS THAT HEREFORDSHIRE PCT WILL STAY 'LOCAL AND INDEPENDENT'12.36.40pm GMT Wed 17th May 2006
Hereford MP, Paul Keetch is delighted by the news from the Department of Health that Herefordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) will survive intact and will not be merged into a regional 'Super Trust.' In a recent statement in the House of Commons, the Health Secretary, Patricia Hewitt MP, confirmed that following local consultation with the West Midlands South Strategic Health Authority (SHA) she has decided to keep Herefordshire PCT in its current form. Commenting following the statement, Mr Keetch said: "I am delighted by this news. I have had several meetings with the SHA and the Chair and Chief Executive of Herefordshire PCT and I am sure they are as pleased as I am with the decision to keep our PCT local and independent. "It has been a very testing and difficult time for everybody involved in the consultations, particularly our hardworking medical staff and health professionals and I want to put on record my thanks for the strong leadership shown throughout the consultation process. We have finally achieved what we all wanted - a Herefordshire based NHS service which will deliver real benefits for local patients."
